The Perfect Jawline – How to Decide Between Chin Liposuction or Getting a Neck Lift

The more we age, the more we notice changes in our appearance. At a certain point, what were previously just minor issues can become major sources of insecurity. Because the face is our most visible feature, even minor changes in neck contour can leave us feeling completely unattractive and lead to a search for solutions.

It All Comes Down To Your Unique Anatomy

Aging of the jawline and neckline occurs gradually, and patients are often unsure of what treatment type to pursue: chin liposuction vs. neck lifting. The answer lies in a detailed analysis of facial anatomy.  There are four cosmetic layers in the neck that may be manipulated, including skin, superficial fat, superficial muscle and deep fat.  A board-certified plastic surgeon will be able to show you which layers are most relevant to your goals and concerns.

What Surgeons Consider When Offering Surgical Solutions

When surgeons are determining whether or not a neck lift is necessary, age is an important factor. If a young patient is bothered by his or her neckline, then chances are that the skin is relatively smooth and elastic, while the problem lies in extra superficial fat. This condition is amenable to improvement via liposuction. When a patient ages, the skin loses elasticity and the superficial muscle loses tone.  In this situation, a surgeon would likely recommend a neck lift to remove extra skin and tighten the muscle.

If you are unsure as to which cosmetic layers of the neck are contributing to your dissatisfaction, then visit a plastic surgeon who will partner with you to make a diagnosis and offer treatment options. Keep in mind that a small amount of chin liposuction may be the only thing necessary to give you a perfect jawline!
