Performed by our very own Dr. Michelle Sieffert, the neck lift surgery (platysmaplasty) is a procedure specifically designed to remove excess, sagging skin under the jawline and on the neck. This incredible surgical option offers undeniably beautiful and long-lasting results, especially for those looking to reverse the telling signs of aging and take back their self-confidence.
Some patients who complain of having a fleshy neck, “jowls,” platysma or neck “banding,” or a “turkey wattle” can benefit from this procedure. In some cases, the platysma muscle of the neck is adjusted and tightened if it has begun to separate and sag.
Everything begins with a one-on-one consultation with our expert neck lift surgeon, Dr. Sieffert, to determine if you are a strong candidate for the procedure. Neck Lifts are normally separated into two parts: excess skin removal and the removal/augmentation of the neck muscles. We may also employ liposuction to remove excess fat from the neck to help improve the cosmetic outcomes of the procedure.
Most neck lifts are outpatient operations and take between two to three hours. Patients can offer their preferred sedation method (local anesthesia or general), but the final decision is likely to be up to the surgeon
The 24-hour usage of a compression garment is the key to a successful recovery. After about two weeks, the surgeon may suggest that the patient only use their compression garment at night.
Patients can also apply cold compresses and keep the head elevated for the first two days to minimize swelling. After the surgical neck lift, we advise patients to do their best to keep the head still and avoid twisting, turning and other strains for the first few days.
Sutures are typically removed after one week, while swelling and bruising may last up to 10 days. Most patients are able to return to work and resume normal daily activities within two weeks. However, patients should avoid strenuous exercise for four to six weeks.
In our experience, the results from a surgical neck lift can be permanent. Factors that can impact long-term results include lifestyle, activity level, genetics and a patient’s baseline age.
The neck lift procedure does not directly correct skin laxity above the jawline. It can help correct some laxity around the jowls. Our neck lift patients sometimes combine their procedure with a surgical facelift or Renuvion (J Plasma) skin tightening for the face.
While some people only need a neck lift, and not a full face lift, the combination of the two can truly make a difference, giving you a younger and refreshed look.

Platysmaplasty is not just an option for one age group. In fact, many younger people also undergo platysmaplasty. Many men and women who have undergone neck lift are often thought to have “lost a lot of weight” or “toned up” rather than having had surgery.
