If you’re tired of taking long-term oral medication for acne treatment, or if you’re searching to improve your skin’s overall appearance, Sciton Forever Clear BBL (Broadband Light) Laser treatments could be perfect for you. BBL can treat pigmented lesions, like freckles or age spots, or vascular lesions, like small blood vessels. It can also improve skin firmness, reduce uneven skin texture, remove unwanted hair and act as an effective laser acne treatment for back and facial areas.
During this innovative acne therapy, the Sciton BBL laser is passed over your skin using three different filters. First, a blue filter is used to target the p-acnes bacteria, one of the main causes of acne. Next, a red filter is used to reduce redness and decrease the appearance of deeper acne lesions. Finally, a third filter is used to target sebaceous gland activity and reduce oil production in acne-prone areas.
If the BBL treatment is targeting acne on your face, you will wear special glasses or safety shields to protect your eyes. You may feel heat from the laser, or a sensation similar to being snapped by a rubber band; however, the procedure is not generally painful. A topical anesthetic cream may be applied if you are targeting sensitive areas.
In addition to treating current acne, BBL is also one of the most effective laser treatments for the removal of acne scars. As the laser passes over your skin, it gently heats the upper layers, which stimulates your skin cells to produce new collagen. This restores your skin to its natural color, improves your skin’s firmness, and reduces any uneven skin textures. Instead of scarred, your skin will appear smoother, younger, and more vibrant.
BBL laser treatment recovery and aftercare are minimal, as the procedure is gentle and noninvasive. You may experience some reddening and swelling of your acne and surrounding skin for one to two days after the treatment; however, there is no downtime required. You can apply makeup immediately, in most cases, and return to your work and normal activities. Anti-inflammatory medicines such as Aspirin should be avoided, as well as strenuous exercise, contact sports and alcohol.
Although you should always protect your skin from the sun, extra care should be taken after BBL treatments. Your skin will be extra sensitive to ultra-violet (UV) light, so you should avoid tanning in the sun or tanning beds for one month after each BBL session. Also, protect your skin on a daily basis by applying broad-spectrum sunblock with zinc oxide or titanium dioxide.
The ideal number of treatments varies from patient to patient; however, a common BBL acne treatment plan involves a series of three to five treatments spaced two to four weeks apart. Most patients also require touch-up treatments every one to six months, depending on acne type and severity. We will work with you to develop a personalized treatment plan tailored to your skin type and goals, and BBL can be combined with additional dermatological treatments accordingly.
BBL acne treatment results will last for varying times depending on the many factors that affect breakouts, such as genetics, stress levels, skin care, and diet, among others. This is why we work with you to develop a personalized treatment plan, and why we recommend touch-up treatments depending on your individualized acne situation. In general, however, BBL results are fairly permanent if you take good care of your skin and protect it from the sun.
The cost of BBL treatments again depends on your individualized situation. Prices will vary based on the type, location, severity, and primary causes of your acne. They will also be determined by the number of initial BBL sessions and touch-up treatments required, as well as your skin’s response and how well you protect your skin after treatments.
