As a plastic surgeon, Columbus, OH, resident Dr. Jeffrey Donaldson successfully raised cancer research funds with his annual Likes for Lives campaign.
Columbus, Ohio (PRWEB) January 08, 2013
Dr. Jeffrey Donaldson, one of the busiest plastic surgeons in Columbus, OH, has completed his annual Likes for Lives campaign; a fundraising mission to increase research coffers during Breast Cancer Awareness Month. For every person who “liked” his Facebook page, Dr. Donaldson donated $1 to the Stefanie Spielman Fund for Breast Cancer Research.
Without ever digging into their own pocketbook, people across the nation were able to aid cancer research with just the click of a button. This year the campaign raised $1,393. Dr. Donaldson is one of the few plastic surgeons in Columbus, OH, who have made a contribution of this size in the fight to eliminate breast cancer.
“Breast cancer has affected many of our patients, employees and colleagues over the years,” said Dr. Donaldson. “Every day, treatment breakthroughs continue through laboratory and clinical research, but there is still much more to do. The fight is ongoing, and I want to do my part to help.”
Stefanie Spielman and husband, Chris, launched the Stefanie Spielman Fund for Breast Cancer Research in 1998 after she discovered a lemon-size lump in her breast. She was just 30 years old. The couple initially decided to raise $250,000 for research. Within six months they raised more than $1 million, and the Stefanie Spielman Fund for Breast Cancer Research was born. Today, it’s raised more than $8 million nationwide. The importance of researching a plastic surgeon was also the topic of a segment in Columbus, Ohio, on NBC affiliate WCMH-TV (65,135 viewers; 1.3 million unique visitors). The station profiled a young mother who suffered severe complications after a botched tummy tuck. The reporter turned to ASPS Member Jeffrey Donaldson, MD, for advise about what consumer should look for when selecting a plastic surgeon. Donaldson noted that 5 percent of his work is revisions from botched surgeries performed by unqualified practitioners. The report cited advise from ASPS and provided a link to the ASPS Find-A-Surgeon tool on its website.
“Red flags would include [a physician having] no hospital privileges for certain operations, no insurance, no before-and-after photos…”
