What You Should Have At Home To Aid In Recovery:

  • A cold compress or ice packs
  • The provided skincare kit
  • Water with electrolytes
  • A comfortable hat and/or clothing that covers the treated area when sun exposure is necessary

It Is Completely Normal To Experience The Following:

  • Swelling
  • Redness
  • Tightness
  • Peeling & flaking
  • Itchiness
  • Pinpoint bleeding
  • Acne breakouts or “purging” of the skin (up to 3 weeks after treatment)
  • Bronzing as the skin begins to heal (around days two – three)

These symptoms usually peak in two to three days and resolve independently within a week. Redness is common in the first five days, and is most intense on the day of treatment. Those with a history of cold sores may react due to the inflammatory response; notify our office if you experience a cold sore so we may prescribe an antiviral medication.

OTC Medications That Are Safe To Use After Treatment

If necessary, you may take an oral pain medication — preferably Ibuprofen. If itching persists and becomes intolerable, we recommend Benadryl. For increased swelling, we recommend calling our office for a 2-day course of an oral steroid.

What you should avoid after Halo treatment

What You Should Avoid After Your Treatment

  • Strictly avoid any sun exposure to the treated area for a minimum of 14 days after the procedure
  • Do not pick, peel, scratch or exfoliate the skin
  • Refrain from strenuous exercise and unnecessary sweating until the skin has fully healed
  • Abstain from alcohol for 48 hours after your treatment (alcohol dries the skin, thins the blood and can prolong or further complicate the healing process)

You can resume your regular skincare routine after the post-Halo facial (around day seven – ten) and once cleared by our aesthetician.

Everything You Should Do After Your Treatment

  • Apply the provided moisturizer
  • Stay hydrated for optimal skin healing
  • Use a cold compress and/or water sprays to help alleviate redness and swelling if needed
  • Showering is OK. For the first few days, the best practice is to shower with the back of the head to the water to avoid direct contact with the water stream and prevent shampoo runoff from touching the treated area
  • Wash your face the evening of the treatment and use the provided skincare products as directed
  • Attend scheduled follow-up appointments or additional treatments — this includes a post-treatment facial that may be scheduled seven to 10 days after the initial session
  • Wait two weeks before scheduling a Filler appointment

Sun Protection Is Critical To Ideal Results

Daily sunscreen use is a must after Halo laser treatments; use the Alastin sunscreen provided in the post-Halo skincare kit. Apply sunscreen 15 – 20 minutes before sun exposure and reapply every 2 hours. Avoid direct sun exposure for 2 months after treatment. Wear a hat and/or protective clothing when avoiding the sun is not possible.
