Aging, pregnancy, weight gain (or loss), hormones, genetics, medical conditions, lifestyle factors, and sun exposure can all contribute to drooping skin. Treatments for tightening the skin, however, are more difficult to identify. Reversing the skin’s natural processes can be challenging, but there are several truly effective skin tightening solutions at Donaldson Plastic Surgery that you should know about.
We’re here to answer two questions:
Whether a treatment will be effective or not varies from person-to-person, depending on two things: the level of skin laxity (mild, moderate, or severe) and the overall elasticity of the skin. For example, an individual in their 20s or 30s with mild or moderate loose skin will have relatively higher skin elasticity and, therefore, will be more likely to see loose skin improve over time with regular non-invasive treatments.
Moderate to severe skin laxity is more common among individuals in their 50s or 60s. This population is more likely to have relatively lower skin elasticity, so their skin may be less responsive to non-surgical treatments. In this case, surgical skin tightening may be a more effective path to correct your concerns.
No matter your concerns or what level of loose skin you have, we have the tools to help you address it. Our team of experienced aesthetic specialists is here to help you identify what level of treatment is right for you to tighten loose skin of the face, neck, and body — all the way from result-driven products to our surgical skin tightening procedures.
Our Medical Aestheticians Tatjana and Nikki recommend a combination of at-home care and professional Medspa treatments to correct mild to moderate loose skin of the face, neck, and body. Listed below is a powerful collection of medical-grade skincare products that you can use to improve skin elasticity, visibly improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and combat signs of aging.
All of these products, including the facial and body rollers, are available for purchase by phone or in person.
Non-invasive skin tightening treatments like Ultherapy are more targeted and go deeper to address the underlying causes of mild to moderate loose skin. Ultherapy is a non-surgical skin tightening and lifting treatment that uses ultrasonic energy to send waves deep within the skin that stimulate collagen production. Because it works on a deeper level than other treatments, Ultherapy is a great preventative treatment for individuals seeing the beginnings of aging skin, rather than a fix to severe sagging or wrinkling. It is primarily intended to lift and tighten the skin of the brow, chin, jowls, neck, and upper chest, but can also be used to target other specific areas of concern.
Halo Laser Skin Resurfacing is a hybrid fractional laser treatment that addresses a number of visible skin concerns and offers skin tightening benefits from inducing collagen production in the healing process. For patients with mild to moderate skin laxity, Halo can result in more youthful, tighter-looking skin. Although the Halo laser is not primarily for skin tightening, patients usually see and feel a skin tightening effect. Wrinkles and fine lines are addressed with Halo, as well as other signs of aging, problematic skin texture, scarring, and sun damage. Other benefits of Halo include minimal downtime and a noticeable improvement of skin a just a couple of days. You can schedule Halo with Adrienne, Paige, Stacie, or Angie.
Renuvion (also known as J Plasma) is a minimally-invasive procedure that uses a combination of radiofrequency energy and helium gas to virtually tighten the skin of the face, neck, and body. A wand emitting the stream of energy is gently passed underneath (in some cases overtop) the dermal layer to cause contraction of the skin. Results can be seen immediately, but dramatically improve over time. See what one patient has to say about her chin liposuction and Renuvion results with Dr. Sieffert!
Botox and fillers are not “skin tightening treatments”, but they do offer benefits that address signs of mild to moderate skin laxity, which is why we include them here.
Aging skin can cause wrinkles, folds, and droopiness to form, which can be corrected using minimally-invasive injectables like Botox and dermal fillers for the face. Botox works by softening the appearance fine lines and wrinkles in the skin by relaxing the muscle underneath that causes the crease to form. Fillers restore volume under the skin to an area where volume has been lost and skin has begun to droop or fold as a result (ex. the jawline, or nasolabial folds and marionette lines). Neither injectable treatment is used to reverse skin laxity, but they can help to improve common concerns associated with it.
To successfully treat more significant loose skin, surgery is usually the best option.
With surgical skin tightening procedures, excess skin is removed surgically and the remaining skin is re-draped tighter than before. This option is the gold-standard is for patients who have moderate to severe skin laxity as a result of aging or weight loss but can be ideal for mild to moderate skin laxity as well.
Here are some of our most effective surgical solutions performed by Dr. Donaldson & Dr. Sieffert.
A tummy tuck is a procedure in which excess skin and fat are surgically removed from the abdomen (and the underlying muscles tightened) to improve its contours. Stretched skin in this area will not always retract on its own, making surgery the only option to return the abdomen to its original form.
Anyone who has undergone pregnancy or weight loss, or who just simply struggles with excess skin of the belly, can benefit from this kind of surgical tightening. Scarring for a tummy tuck is minimal and easily concealed with undergarments or bathing suits, and our tummy tuck patients are thrilled with their results. Their only regret is they wished they had done is sooner!
A body lift, or circumferential body contouring, is a procedure in which excess skin of the entire abdominal front, back, and sides is removed for a tighter trunk. Usually performed on individuals with severe skin laxity of the body, this procedure is common amongst individuals who have undergone significant weight loss and are left with excess skin as a result. A body lift can also encompass surgical tightening of multiple areas including the arms, chest, upper and lower back, buttocks, and thighs — the surgery is always customized to address the patient’s concerns.
Arm lifts and thigh lifts are procedures in which sagging excess skin of the upper arms and thighs is removed, often solving cosmetic concerns of the colloquial “bat wings” and sagging skin of the inner thighs and above the knee. They can be performed individually or together, depending on a patient’s wishes. These two areas are very likely to loosen with age, so the majority of arm and thigh lift candidates simply wish to see their extremities restored to a more youthful-looking state. Scarring is likely to be visible in these areas, so please discuss your concerns with your surgeon prior to surgery.
Facelifts and neck lifts are also common amongst individuals with concerns of drooping skin. As exterior representations of how we present ourselves to the world, the areas of the face and neck are often ones of prime importance — but, unfortunately, they can be some of the first areas to show the effects of aging. In a facelift and/or neck lift, excess skin is excised by your surgeon and the skin is laid tauter than it was before. Specific areas like the lower or upper face can be targeted, as in the case of a brow lift. Scarring is very discrete and easily concealed.
Upper and lower blepharoplasty, or eyelid surgery, are surgical procedures in which excess skin of the upper and lower lid is carefully removed, and the remaining skin joined back together for younger, fresher-looking eyes. If you have what some might describe as overly-hooded eyes, or suffer from large bags underneath, you are likely a good candidate for an eyelid lift. Sometimes fat pads in the lower eyelid may also be removed to reduce puffiness. The procedure is straightforward and scarring is virtually invisible.

I started noticing a “maturing” hairline around age 24. At 27, there was some thinning and that’s when the insecurities started to flood in. What could I do to stop it and potentially get some of it back? I tried everything I could find (that didn’t break the bank) – dermarolling, Finasteride, collagen supplements, etc. Nothing really worked.
But at age 30, I started hearing more and more about PRP for hair restoration.
So, I scoured the Google results, YouTube videos and Reddit threads looking for “real” testimonials. What I found was twofold: one group clamored for the treatment, calling it a miracle cure (but they obviously had some additional work done); the other side baselessly claimed that PRP was a waste of money without ever actually trying it out.
I’m a real person who underwent four real sessions of PRP treatments for my hair – and this is what it really did for me!
(Full disclosure: I’m not bald. That’s not who PRP is for anyhow and it is very important to know that before going down this path.)
I was looking for a solution that would stop the thinning, mitigate the shedding and maybe even give me back some of what I lost. I can confidently say that PRP did just that. However, it didn’t just magically give me the hairline I had when I was 18!
I didn’t notice much growth after the first month, but something did change – my daily shedding decreased dramatically. Around month 2 or 3 was when the bit of regrowth started to happen. There wasn’t too much regrowth in the temple or hairline region, but the crown? The crown started sprouting new life, filling in the spaces that freaked me out when I saw pictures of myself from behind (and slightly above).
Three months after my final session, I’m still enjoying some regrowth in the crown region, increased hair growth in areas right outside of the crown and decreased shedding/loss along the hairline.
After a few conversations about my hair loss and a quick examination of what I had left/my future trajectory of loss, it was fairly obvious that I was a good candidate for PRP. From there, I went into the Donaldson Plastic Surgery office, met with Stacie and then she drew my blood.
She put the syringe into a centrifuge-looking machine where it spun for a solid 18 minutes or so. My blood was separated, essentially, into two different parts – the darker stuff that they inject into my scalp and the magical cooling, transparent plasma that they use at the end.
The needle was loaded up and it was go-time. Now, this wasn’t exactly the most comfortable thing. If your pain tolerance is low, you may opt for something called “Pro-Nox” – a VERY fast-acting sedative that you inhale. I tried it once and I felt completely normal in less than 20 minutes. It works fast and fades quickly.
Stacie covered the most prominent problem areas – the crown, the temples, the part and creases. The crown didn’t hurt all that bad, but the temples were tough. Luckily, they also gave me a stress ball to squeeze and they really don’t care if you curse while they get the job done. When there was about 25% of the syringe left, Stacie asked if I was comfortable enough to continue and if there were any areas she wanted me to double up on. We kept going, adding a bit more into the front hairline.
Recovery actually begins when you’re in the chair. They take the leftover clear plasma that was centrifuged out at the beginning and place it all over your scalp. There are no words to describe how relieving that feeling is. Once this was done, I was out the door and ready to face the day. The whole ordeal took about 45 minutes or so.
A word from the wise: bring a banana (or something else with a bunch of sugar) and a ton of water with you. I was on the keto diet during one of my sessions and the loss of blood left me in a weakened state.
The good folks at Donaldson suggested I supplement my treatment with a few bottles of Nutrafol. These are, in my words, a blast of every vitamin that could possibly help your hair grow – faster, stronger and just more. They are some pretty large pills and they will also make your nails grow quickly but I believe the one-two punch of these and the PRP injections did everything I needed it to do.
PRP is NOT a miracle cure for male pattern baldness nor is it going to give you a glorious Mario Lopez hairline. PRP IS an amazing option for people noticing moderate thinning in the crown and a receding hairline! It really helps to stop the bleeding and even fills in some of the gaps. I would take PRP injections once every six months forever if it meant keeping my hair and not having to take a daily pill that can carry some hefty side effects.
Speaking of which…
If you’re a guy over the age of 25, you’ve probably been inundated by advertisements for solutions to hair loss. Every podcast, commercial break and Internet ad is designed to blanket a large demographic of dudes, hoping to poke at just enough insecurities to get someone on some hair retention supplement for life.
We know the brands. We know the game.
Well, I bit the bullet and tried one of the pill-based options for about 9 months. The results were fairly negligible, but the side effects were downright disastrous for me. One of the most talked about negative effects is on sexual wellness – that didn’t happen. What did happen were these intense, hours-long panic attacks and bouts with anxiety that didn’t really clear up until six months of ditching the prescription.
As noted earlier, I’m not exactly bald – I’m just losing some of what I’ve got and I want to keep what I have forever. With Finasteride as a no-go, I dug for other options. PRP started showing up in hair loss threads, so I decided to give it a shot. Another option is full on hair transplant surgery, which I may consider in the distant future.
For now, I’ll be happy with the recovery and, most importantly, the halting of hair loss that PRP has given me!
As Ohio vaccinations increase, questions have arisen about possible contra-indications for the COVID vaccine. Many injectable patients have been left wondering: “should I wait to get the COVID-19 vaccine if I have recently had Botox or fillers?”, and “should I wait to receive Botox and fillers if I am newly vaccinated?”
As leading plastic surgeons in Columbus, Ohio, we use the most recent data available to provide guidance on the safety surrounding Botox, fillers, & the COVID vaccine, and how long is an appropriate amount of time to wait in between them. In order to decrease your potential for late-onset swelling, we recommend you err on the side of caution by scheduling time between your injections and the vaccine.
It is safe to receive treatments like Botox and fillers after receiving the COVID vaccine. The vaccine is not a contra-indication for Botox or fillers, meaning that if you are already vaccinated (or are planning to become vaccinated before your injectable visit), you have no reason to worry!
However, our injectors do recommend waiting approximately 2 weeks after your vaccine to come in for a Botox/filler treatment. The reason for this is to wait for any potential symptoms from the vaccine subside; not everyone experiences noticeable symptoms after vaccination, but your body will typically have some sort of an inflammatory response to the vaccine (which is what you want in order to create the antibodies to the virus) that you should wait out before resuming or trying new cosmetic treatments.
Yes! In our experience, we have not observed any instance where a patient has experienced side effects related to their Botox treatment after receiving the COVID vaccine, nor from other wrinkle relaxers like Dysport, Xeomin, or Jeuveau.
Yes. It is safe to get the vaccine if you have a history of fillers. However, there is a very slight possibility you may receive some swelling afterward. There have been three cases reported by the FDA (out of a sample of 15,184) in which patients have experienced late-onset swelling in the area of their filler following the COVID-19 Moderna vaccination, most likely related to the body’s inflammatory response.
Reported symptoms of these cases were mild and quickly resolved. It is normal to be swollen for the couple of weeks after fillers. However, if swelling returns three to four weeks after fillers, this may be a symptom of your body’s immunological response following the vaccine.
In fact, this type of delayed-onset swelling isn’t uncommon. It is fairly normal to see residual swelling of the injection area anytime there is a diffuse inflammation response occurring in the body. Inflammation can be caused by any number of things that trigger an immune reaction — certain foods, environmental factors, and, of course, viruses can all cause varied levels of inflammation.
Guidance provided by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) states that, for these reasons, they do not discourage vaccination for any individual with a history of filler or Botox use.
Plan out your appointments. We agree with the ASPS that the risk of swelling is so minimal that it should not dissuade you from receiving the vaccine, nor cosmetic injectables. The benefits of receiving the vaccine vastly outweigh any potential risks or side effects like those described in the FDA’s report. It should not matter the order in which you receive them, as long as you provide yourself an appropriate buffer period to allow your body’s natural immune response to settle.
Give yourself a minimum of two-weeks between your appointments, just to be safe. Make an informed decision regarding your vaccination, and be sure to ask your injector any questions you have before your treatment. As healthcare providers, we encourage vaccination against COVID-19. We will continue to follow the CDC’s guidelines as they apply to healthcare facilities, and closely monitor the FDA’s literature as it relates to dermal fillers and the COVID vaccine.

When the warm weather rolls around, our patients know it’s usually time to schedule an appointment for the things that are front of mind: lasering off unwanted hair and freezing away stubborn fat. However, we are seeing a demand for new in-office treatments that are growing in popularity this season — and we bet there may be one or two that you didn’t know you could benefit from!
Here are the treatment and procedures — that don’t require surgery or downtime — that are going to be big this spring.
We believe in treating the whole person — not just a part. Your sexual wellness is important to us, which is why we proudly champion diVa vaginal laser therapy, a quick in-office procedure that is in high demand this spring.
They way diVa works is the inside length of the vaginal canal is resurfaced with a fractional laser to promote cell-turnover and make your tissue produce more collagen. The benefits after treatment include an increased ability to produce moisture, heightened sexual sensation, and even improved symptoms from mild stress urinary incontinence. diVa is quick and painless, and has very minimal downtime.
We are seeing the interest in diVa vaginal laser therapy surge this spring, and those who have it done are almost always recommending it to their friends and family, too. Summer happens fast, and we don’t want you to miss a moment of fun because of an intimate challenge you’re experiencing! diVa is a gamechanger that will help you feel like your most vital self.
Spring is a busy time, and many are looking for quick ways to tone up before summer (your DPS providers, included!). For those wanting to get in better shape or see more results from their spring training regimen, CoolTone is a secret fitness weapon that is is huge right now.
CoolTone is a new noninvasive technology that quickly strengthens and tones your muscles; it works by safely delivering rapid supramaximal contractions straight to the muscle layer, reaching every muscle fiber. It is truly beneficial for all fitness levels, ages, and lifestyles!
It’s important to know that CoolTone treats muscle, while CoolSculpting freezes away fat. When you CoolSculpt at this time of year, you’ll be enjoying a slimmer look in around 4-8 weeks, loving the way you look and feel. Both treatments are non-invasive and have absolutely no downtime.
Trending up, microblading is an excellent semi-permanent makeup solution that makes it possible to maintain perfect, effortless brows — and right now, Tatjana’s microblading is more popular than ever.
Brow makeup is time-consuming when you are on-the-go, and excess moisture in the summer makes brows prone to smudging. Microblading results can last up to 2 years, which means you are sure to enjoy them all summer long. Tatjana creates each hair-like stroke with the utmost care, safety, precision, and attention to placement.
Soaking through your shirts and sweating off makeup is probably not how you want to spend your summer. More patients are looking into hyperhidrosis treatments than ever before, and we expect that number to keep growing this spring.
During a hyperhidrosis treatment, Botox is injected into the skin of the hands, feet, forehead, and underarm. Sweat glands in that area are no longer able to produce sweat, keeping you dry even on the warmest days. If you are prone to experiencing hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating), you might consider looking into treatment with us!
Finally, we are seeing a huge surge in interest in sclerotherapy, a treatment we offer for removing spider veins. If you feel self-conscious of spider veins on the legs and feet, sclerotherapy is an extremely satisfying and minimally-invasive solution. We carefully inject a special solution into the top of the spider veins, causing them to literally disappear right before your very eyes!

We are proud to say that no one appreciates the importance of lips more than the highly-trained aesthetic providers at Donaldson Plastic Surgery. We can think of no better way to honor this day by sharing our top tips for youthful-looking lips.
Lip filler is one of our most popular treatments, with thousands of patients having had received their lip filler treatments from our office. Volume in lips is a hallmark sign of youthfulness — as we age, we lose this volume over time. Lip filler is made of hyaluronic acid (HA), which is a protein compound found naturally in our bodies. This substance is an excellent building-block for restoring lost volume in the lips, and can even allow us to create youthful-looking lips that will compliment your natural features. We tend to be give you a more conservative, natural treatment, especially if it is your first treatment. We can always add more filler with a touch-up!
Have you heard of a lip-flip? This lesser-known injectable technique has recently become a desirable alternative for those who are not interested in traditional lip fillers. Rather than adding volume, the Botox lip-flip instead relaxes the orbicularis oris muscle, allowing the top lip to relax and unfurl. “Flipping” the top lip slightly outwards this way results in a more noticeable projection of the cupid’s bow and upper tubercle (the small, rounded middle part of the upper lip), which gives the lips a fuller-looking appearance. Results can vary with the lip-flip, but it often is a good way to try out minimally-invasive techniques for more youthful-looking lips.
Show your lips the extra love they deserve! Tatjana, our medical aesthetician, offers the Lip Repair treatment as a special service enhancement — it is designed to combine with a facial treatment to plump, moisturize, and refine the look of the lips. It addresses dry, chapped lips, and helps to diminish the appearance of fine lines and the harsh effects of the environment. This treatment can be added to any skincare service to enhance your experience in the Donaldson Plastic Surgery medspa.
This product is the best hydrating lip serum that we carry, and is a cult-favorite among our team members! This product plumps, hydrates, and smooths lines on the lips. Made to use as an everyday nourishing lip balm, this product has a high-end feel with a thick and glossy finish. The long-lasting formula stays through daily living and overnight-wear. The Replenisher acts like a combination of hydrating serum and lip plumper, and there is a slight minty, cooling sensation when applied. We couldn’t recommend the Youthful Lip Replenisher more!
Glo’s mineral lip gloss has a luxurious, creamy color and beautiful shine. This mineral gloss glides on lips easily, and actually hydrates your lips as you wear it. Glo’s lip glosses are great on their own, but are very effective on top of lipstick and lip liner to offer extra impact and shine! This is one of those must-have makeup staples that we recommend carrying with you wherever you go!
The GrandeLips Hydrating Lip Plumper is our favorite plumping product. If you are not familiar with what a lip plumper does, it helps to stimulate visible projection and provide a plumping effect to provide fullness to your natural lips without any stinging or burning sensations. The GrandeLips formula moisturizes, smooths, and improves firmness. These hydrating glosses also come in a wide range of colors, including reds, browns, pinks, and clear.
Exfoliation is an important part of maintaining youthful-looking lips! A fan-favorite from renowned medical-grade skincare line ZO Skin Health, the Exfoliating Polish uses microdermabrasion crystals to finely and gently remove excess dead skin cells from the skin’s surface layer. This makes it an excellent option for providing a youthful glow to the lips, as well as your face, neck, and décolleté. We recommend using this polish as your lip exfoliant because it is gentle, has a wonderful aroma, and will leave your lips looking soft and smooth.
A lip lift is a minimally-invasive surgical procedure that shortens the space between the nose and the top of the lip, which can often elongate over time and make lips look thinner. When the upper lip is lifted, more of the pinkness of the lip is visible to others, making your lips look fuller and more pronounced. Compared to fillers, a lip lift is a permanent solution and an excellent option for anyone who would like to add height instead of just volume to their lips!
If your lips are ready for some love, or you are simply curious about one of the treatment tips we’ve listed, set up a consultation with one of our providers! We would love to help you restore life in your lips. Happy Lips Appreciation Day!
Donaldson Plastic Surgery is proud to be the very first practice in Columbus to offer the RHA Collection of dynamic facial fillers! RHA stands for Resilient Hyaluronic Acid, and it is designed for dynamic wrinkles and folds to keep you looking beautiful at rest & flawless in motion.
The beauty experts of Donaldson Plastic Surgery held a live webinar event on March 10th, 2021 to unveil the RHA Collection, and educate patients on the newest innovation in dynamic HA facial filler. The event was hosted by our Aesthetic Director Jill Hawkins, who was joined by master injector Adrienne Yanich and a Revance Aesthetics consultant.
RHA is resilient hyaluronic acid filler. Although it may be new here in the United States (around 6 to 8 months), RHA is not new in the world of medical aesthetics. In fact, RHA has been in use for over 5 years in over 96 countries with 79 worldwide approvals. There are currently three different products within the collection: RHA 2, RHA 3, and RHA 4.
The first thing that is special about the RHA Collection is that it is the first and only FDA-approved hyaluronic acid filler for dynamic wrinkles and folds. This new designer filler is made differently: it was designed to move with you, more closely resemble the skin’s natural HA, and integrate seamlessly with the dynamic areas found in lower half of the face. Another thing that makes RHA special is its long duration: RHA is FDA-approved to last for an average of 15 months, which makes it one of the longest-lasting treatments available.
Finally, RHA is an exclusive product that is only carried by select providers, like dermatologists and plastic surgery practices, that specialize in high-quality facial aesthetics.

“You have to be confident in order to keep going, to keep pushing yourself through every day. Like with my job and taking care of my kids, just not giving up and just having that strength to keep on going.” – Jamie S., a Columbus, OH CVS Store Manager working through the COVID-19 pandemic.
At Donaldson Plastic Surgery, we are passionate about supporting our community and finding new ways to inspire confidence as we navigate the COVID-19 experience. While nobody knows when a return to normalcy will occur, many Columbus natives and DPS patients have taken this opportunity to show inspiring acts of kindness and resilience.
We asked our patients to send us stories of individuals who they have seen going above and beyond during the coronavirus pandemic. After receiving over 100 written nominations, we selected the most compelling, heroic, and selfless individuals to join us for a special event we called “Confidence is Essential.” The stories you see in the video above are real Columbus community members and Donaldson Plastic Surgery patients who have played an essential role in the lives of others since the start of COVID-19. We invited them to come sit down with us, reflect on their experiences, and share why they believe inspiring confidence is essential through these uncertain times.
Our “Confidence is Essential” event, presented by our philanthropic extension DPS Cares, took place on Saturday, June 13 at the Donaldson Plastic Surgery office. Winners were invited to come receive complimentary Botox treatments on our patio, overlooking the scenic Historic Dublin pedestrian bridge and Bridge Park West Plaza. Over $35,000 worth of Botox was donated for the event, in addition to the services provided by our injectors — Dr. Donaldson, Dr. Sieffert, and Adrienne Yanich —and the rest of the Donaldson team. Keeping concerns of COVID-19 close in mind, patients were scheduled to arrive one-by-one to receive their treatments in a safe and enjoyable experience. We followed all of our practice’s regular safety protocols and took careful measures to ensure safe social distancing and mask requirements.
Complimentary Botox treatments are just one small way in which our practice is able to thank these individuals. “Because we’re not on the front lines in ICUs and treating COVID patients, we thought that the least we could do — because we are on the front lines of treating confidence — is to give back to those individuals by enhancing their day or their weekend.” explains renowned Columbus plastic surgeon Dr. Jeffrey Donaldson. “We’re hopefully giving them a little something to look forward to in this time when there has been a lot of negative news and pessimism.”
In addition to this event, our practice has given back during COVID-19 by donating to the Mid-Ohio Food Bank and establishing a laceration Suture Clinic to help alleviate local Emergency Rooms.
“This event reinvigorated us,” remarks injector for the event Adrienne Yanich. “When you are stuck behind that mask every day, and you become just another faceless number, it’s difficult to remember your purpose. This event gave us an opportunity to hear the passions that people hold and why they choose to do the work that they’re doing.”
Natalie Folchi, the Columbus, Ohio based portrait and lifestyle photographer behind Folchi Creative, donated her talents to document the event, and produced these beautiful photographs of our providers and winners as they received their treatments. We love Natalie’s keen eye and her special talent to capture the joyous and genuine moments that define our practice.
A special thank you goes out to Elevate Creative, a full-service creative agency in Columbus, OH, for the creation of our Confidence is Essential video. We loved working with their team, and we couldn’t be more pleased with the beautiful portrayal of our patients’ stories.
We would also like to thank Dublin and Bridge Park’s local businesses J. Hilburn, Sweetwaters Coffee & Tea, Kilwins Dublin, and Apricot Lane Boutique, who contributed their own gifts to our Confidence is Essential winners. Their donations serve as a heartwarming example of the strength and support this community is known for.
We believe matching beauty on the outside with the beauty on the inside builds confidence. And we believe that confidence extends, lifting everyone we touch. We are confident that Columbus will emerge from this time stronger than ever before.
Dr. Michelle Sieffert
If, like many of us at Donaldson Plastic Surgery & Aesthetic Solutions, you’ve taken this time of social distancing for self-improvement, then you’re probably also thinking, “Once I’m allowed back to some sense of normalcy, what can I do (that I couldn’t do at home) to continue what I started?”
I’m here to highlight just a few of the services we offer that I recommend when “coming out of quarantine” to help you on your journey to become the best, most confident version of you!
Neurotoxin injections (such as Botox, Xeomin, Dysport, Jeuveau, etc.) are used to treat wrinkles caused by muscle activity—most commonly in the forehead and around the eyes. They can also be used for prevention if you are only just starting to see wrinkles surface! The injections are relatively painless, only take a few moments to complete, and only need to be repeated roughly every 3-4 months (so you may be starting to see those fine lines and wrinkles return while on quarantine). My single rule for neurotoxin injections is simple: no exercise for 24 hours afterwards.
We offer complimentary make-up touch-ups after any injectable procedure, so you can get back to your life without anyone being the wiser!
Filler is a substance made of hyaluronic acid (HA), which is a naturally occurring substance in your skin. It is used to plump areas of the face and body that have experienced volume loss, or to shape areas of the face like the nose, chin, and jawline. Different fillers (Ultra and Ultra Plus, Voluma, Vollure, Volbella, Restylane, Radiesse, etc.) are designed with different measures of thickness and longevity; they can last anywhere from 1-2 years depending on the product used and the location injected. Some of my favorite locations for filler are the lips, cheeks, jawline, temples, and nasolabial folds. The treatment generally lasts 30 minutes (most of that time is spent discussing your needs and desires), and you can expect mild, but not unbearable, discomfort.
I suggest planning filler injections at least a week ahead of any major event, as swelling and bruising is a possibility with any filler injection. As mentioned above, we offer complimentary make-up touch ups after your injectable visit, so you can leave our office looking and feeling like you!
Perhaps you’ve been experimenting with making your own facials at home to keep your skin healthy and glowing, but need a little something extra to brighten or moisturize as you’re getting back to work. In my opinion, nobody performs a more relaxing and effective facial than our Lead Medical Aesthetician, Tatjana!

Everyone has that “one area” that, no matter how hard you exercise and diet, never seems to go away; this is where CoolSculpting is of benefit! The advanced CoolSculpting technology freezes localized areas of fat, causing damage and, ultimately, death, of the fat cell itself. Over the ensuing 2 to 3 months, the body removes the damaged fat cells from the area, causing a reduction of up to 25% of the fat present in the treatment area.
Each CoolSculpting treatment, or “cycle”, lasts 1 hour. You can expect mild discomfort and tingling as the treatment begins and ends (as the skin cools and re-warms), and an area of numbness that returns to normal between 2 days and 3 weeks afterwards. As with any minimally invasive body contouring technology, multiple treatments in the same area are required to get a great result.
CoolTone is the newest non-invasive body contouring tool at our practice, and one that I am personally pretty excited about! It uses electromagnetic stimulation to give your abdominal, gluteal, or thigh muscles (other treatment areas coming soon) a intense 30-minute workout, with the result being visible toning and strengthening. This is a perfect solution for anyone who wants firmer abs, tighter glutes, or more defined thighs!
CoolTone treatments begin with a series of four 30-minute “workouts” performed over a 2 week period, with subsequent maintenance treatments performed on a quarterly to monthly basis. I recommend that any necessary fat reduction be done prior to muscle toning, which is why I encourage pairing CoolSculpting with CoolTone for best results.
In my many years as a fitness competitor, I always had trouble with my abdominal region, and I can honestly say after my first series of four treatments I have never seen my midsection look better. I am a strong believer in CoolTone’s technology!
That wraps up my top 5 suggestions for coming out of quarantine! Wrinkle relaxers, fillers, facials & peels, CoolSculpting, and CoolTone are among our most popular services, and are here to help you continue your efforts to help you feel your best every day!

So you’ve made your first appointment for a dermal filler injection. Dermal filler, such as Juvederm, offers a safe, non-surgical way to help restore hyaluronic acid in the skin. This adds volume and reduces the appearance of wrinkles, giving you a more youthful experience.
As your treatment gets closer, you might be wondering if there is anything you can do to prepare ahead of time. The answer is “yes!” Doing your homework and making some slight adjustments to your routine can alleviate any stress ahead of the treatment and minimize your recovery. Here are four tips on how to prepare for your first dermal filler appointment.
Before going into the procedure or consultation, be sure that the desired outcome is clear. Patients should prioritize their aesthetic goals and have a clear budget in mind for the treatment. It’s also a good idea to take a few pictures so you can see how the area improved following your treatment.
Your physician is a great resource for questions about the procedure, but it never hurts to do a little outside research. Patient reviews and testimonials can be especially helpful in helping you understand what to expect. Take notes while you’re reading through them and bring them with you to your first appointment. That way you won’t forget to ask any questions when meeting with your doctor. When it comes to choosing a provider, look for someone who is board-certified and has a well-trained staff.
What’s inside the body can affect your reaction to the treatment. You might need to alter your diet a bit in the two weeks leading up to your appointment. Avoid aspirin, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications — such as Motrin and Advil — Vitamin E, and fish oil. All of these can increase bruising following the treatment. Eating more leafy greens and Vitamin K also can help prevent bruising/swelling.
One of the most important things you can do is build in recovery time. There may be visible redness and swelling immediately following your appointment. For added discretion, book injections on a Friday or take a day off from work following the injection.
Dermal fillers like Juvéderm® can be administered in as little as 15 minutes with results that can last up to a year. If you want more information about dermal fillers, schedule a consultation today with Donaldson Plastic Surgery.
If you have a wedding on the horizon, chances are you have a lot of responsibilities on your plate. What with choosing a venue, picking a perfect bouquet, and dealing with all of the hiccups along the way, it can be easy to put yourself last on the list.
Here at Donaldson Plastic Surgery & Aesthetic Solutions, we believe you should spend less time getting pretty and more time feeling pretty. That’s why we’ve decided to remove one of the biggest wedding stressors: timing your beauty and aesthetic treatments.
We’ve laid out an easy to follow guide for scheduling all of your prenuptial procedures. Before we get started, a quick note from Dr. Donaldson: Starting your aesthetic treatments 12 months out is by no means imperative for a beautiful wedding. Whether it is a year away or the week before ‘I do’, there are treatment options available to help you look and feel like the very best version of you.
If you are considering a procedure like rhinoplasty, breast augmentation, or liposuction before the big day, we recommend scheduling them a year out. This will give you a generous amount of time to heal from the surgery so that you won’t need to be focused on your recovery in the months leading up. If your procedure affects your figure, this also gives you time to consider how your wedding attire may fit differently before and after.
Laser hair removal is a very common treatment leading up to the big day, and for good reason; who should worry about under arm stubble when tossing the bouquet, or the bikini line on their honeymoon? Laser treatments are typically done in a series with an average of six sessions to maximize results. With four to six weeks between each treatment, eight months should provide the right amount of time to smooth those areas.
If your wedding is at least six months away, Ultherapy is an excellent alternative to give you the benefits of a face lift with no downtime. Using safe ultrasound technology and your skin’s own natural healing process, Ultherapy provides aging skin a boost to improve overall appearance and give you a youthful glow.
If surgery is out of the question due to time, finances, or personal preference, another option to consider is CoolSculpting. It is a non-invasive treatment that has become increasingly popular for treating “problem areas” that don’t resolve with pre-wedding diet and exercise. CoolSculpting is often performed on the arms, back, inner and outer thighs, abdomen, love handles, and under the chin.
Some opt for more than one treatment to really target certain areas, which should be done with eight weeks in between. Optimal results usually take anywhere from four to six weeks, so you will want a small buffer of time between your last treatment and the ceremony.
Bra fat and double chins are common concerns for many brides-to-be. By dissolving this fat, Kybella can give you the confidence to walk into your ceremony with your head held high. Kybella is injected into the desired area, with most patients receiving two or three treatments spaced four to six weeks apart. Because Kybella dissolves the fat gradually, you may want to schedule this in-office procedure beginning about five to six months before your big day.
The reasons for feminine rejuvenation before a wedding may seem self-apparent, but the diVa Laser Treatment is beneficial for more reasons than you might think. Known to help women’s issues like vaginal dryness, it can also be used to treat incontinence, pelvic prolapse, pain during intercourse, pH troubles and more. For best results, we recommend a series of three treatments spread four months apart, making six months the best time to begin diVa.
The results that diVa can provide are powerful – this private treatment can definitely spark the same confidence and glow as your other beauty and aesthetic procedures.
When it comes to our skin, wouldn’t we all love a fresh slate? Halo is the world’s first hybrid fractional laser designed to remove years of damage from the face. There are many benefits to laser skin resurfacing, including treating sun damage, pigment, fine lines, and improving the appearance of the skin’s pores and texture. Because everyone’s healing process is different, three months will allow your skin time to heal and reveal its natural glow.
Often done in tandem with Halo, BBL is your go-to laser treatment for correcting color and complexion. Many people with rosacea opt for this treatment before their wedding day because results are reliable and effective for even the most blushing of brides. A series of BBL treatments can be lined up with Halo treatments in order to minimize your recovery time and maximize your skin’s clarity.
We’ve all looked back at past photos and thought, what on earth is up with my eyebrows? When you look back at your wedding photos, your brows should be the last thing on your mind. Microblading is a great way to achieve effortless, natural brows for your wedding. Three months gives you ample time for complimentary touch ups before the big day
With microblading, it’s really important to choose a qualified expert – Tatjana, our Lead Medical Aesthetician, will help you plan and shape your brows how you would like them to look well before your wedding. This will also give you the peace of mind that you don’t have to rely on a makeup artist to give you the full and beautiful brows you deserve.
False eyelashes can be a pain, and, unless expertly applied, can look heavy and exaggerated. If you are looking for a fuller and natural lash, look no further – Latisse is your answer. Low-maintenance and done from home, Latisse is a prescription serum that will lengthen and thicken your own lashes for a beautiful effect. Adding Latisse to your regimen early will allow you to build up to the volume you desire.
The month before the wedding means looking at finishing touches. If you are looking for a little something extra to complete your beauty treatments, this is the perfect time to schedule your Botox and filler appointment. These treatments can be done at the same time and both offer a completely subtle enhancement of your natural features. While filler is immediate, Botox takes four days to take effect – one month before gives you a perfect amount of time for touch ups if needed.
The week of the wedding is your time to relax, so a spa treatment like Dermaplaning with Tatjana is the perfect way to pamper your skin while also ensuring seamless makeup application for the day of the ceremony.
Dermaplaning creates a smooth surface and helps with makeup application by removing hair and dead skin cells, and leaves skin instantly soft, radiant and glowing.
Finally, your wedding day has arrived.
